<p>The Kettlebellsireland split squat with rotation is a great corrective exercise that we have been using for many years, from Kettlebellsireland to FFI.</p>
<p>The benefits for this movement are;</p>
<ol>
<li>Correct hyper-pronating ankles. If you have medial foot arches that collapse inwards when you squat or lunge then this movement will help train your foot, ankle, knee and hip joints function in a correct manner. By adding rotation to the lead leg, it shifts your body weight to the outside border of your foot.</li>
<li>Strengthen the Tibilais anterior and posterior in movement. Both of these muscles located in the lower leg help control your feet, helping them hold a neutral position when moving. These muscle can become weak in certain people, leading to poor gait and foot positioning.</li>
<li>Strengthen the peroneals. These muscles also located in the lower leg are also responsible for control of the feet and ankles. They work in opposition to the Tibialis muscles, so both muscle groups act like a stirrup, wrapping around the foot to keep it in neutral during locomotion.</li>
<li>Strengthen the hip adductors and abductors. Doing split squats with rotations tram your knee caps to track your middle toes when you bend your knees. Some people tend to have hip adductors that over fire when squatting / lunging with the result that their knees collapse inwards.&nbsp;</li>
<li>This movement will help strengthen your Quads, hamstrings, glutes, calfs, in fact it will train every muscle in your lower body.</li>
</ol>
<p>Add this to your strength training a couple of times per week. 5 reps or less each leg, for 3-5 sets</p>

I have made a few resolutions, but my main one is to push what we call our fitness revolution forwards even more in 2012. We have spent the last year training 100's of women (mostly). We have changed the way that they train forever. In other words they train less and gain more!     <description><![CDATA[<p><h2>The bodies chains wrapped in a leotard!</h2>I know it sounds kinky :) but this is how i view our bodies. The body from foot/ankle to the head operates as one unit in functional movement patterns. Even with so-called isolation movements, muscles must work at least in pairs, so isolation training is not a good term in my view. Each muscle in our body, links to another through the myofascial network. The myofascia is a connective tissue that envelopes each muscle and weaves through each muscle. So this is our leotard. From the plantar fascia (sole of foot) to the galea aponeurotica (scalp) all our skeletal muscles are linked like chains, hence my kinky heading :)</p>]]></description>

The Indian club is best described as a bowling pin (1lb small ones) or a heavy bat (heavy ones over 12kg). They can be made from wood or metal. I first became aware of these tools as a young boy in the 1970's when my grandfather Michael O' Neill taught them in schools around Ireland. He was an old army P.E. teacher and taught mainly in Dublin. He wouls store the Indian clubs under our stairs, in as we called the coal house.</p>]]></description>

    <description><![CDATA[<p>Christmas is approaching and the obvious is going to happen for most of  us. I am talking about diet and exercise. Yes we will all over eat and  probably the foods that are not too good for us, not to mention the  extra bottle of Vino or two! Such is life :) So where does the exercise  fit in? If anything it should be stepped up during the coming weeks. The  calories that you are about to consume over the next few weeks will  HAVE to be burned.</p>]]></description>

    <title><![CDATA[Kettlebells  and Running]]></title>

    <description><![CDATA[<p>Recently i attended a strength and conditioning conference in the UK.  The weekend was dealing with the speed,agility and plyometric end of  things. So the weekend would entail a lot of running, change of  direction and jumping. Now i am literally a fish out of water so was  prepared for a heavy weekend on my body. I can't remember the last time  that i went running as most of my cardio work would be in the pool or on  a bike. I do a fair bit of walking though, but it's just not speed,  agility and plyometric!</p>]]></description>
